Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal & The Military Medal. Gazette Issue 30234 published on the 14 August 1917: -8/14398 Pte. F. J. Backhouse, Yorks. L.I. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When in charge of a Lewis gun post covering the left flank of our attack he displayed great skill and gallantry in repulsing A hostile counter-attack, although practically unsupported, and with three of his team, casualties. Son of Frederick and Jessie Backhouse, of Blackheath, Kent; husband of G. Backhouse, of 10, Berwick Rd, High St, Walthamstow, Essex. |
